You know, I'm *sure* there were references in Part Two to Thad being really happy to meet her and how he saw her as a "celebrity" or something. It's not totally out of left field.
He really is more complicated than he probably ever seemed. I think he does love her. And he really was upset in Part Two when he thought he was being used...I mean, if you'd all but worshipped something/one for so long and they seemed to use you, you'd be upset too. Of course, Natalya's actually doing the using, and I don't think that's occurred to him yet... But he does mean well. I think.

Oh, I certainly don't expect anyone to remember that, lol, just saying that I put it in there so it's not totally out of nowhere.
I was thinking last night that the real tragedy of Thad is that he doesn't realize anything he's doing is wrong. He doesn't tell Merri about the fact that he's reporting to Natalya not because he thinks it's a betrayal, but because he's been told not to. I honestly don't think he'd understand exactly how angry Merri will be when she finds out. (Which I don't consider a spoiler--two things are certain in Part Three. 1. Gen and Michael will have their big confrontation, and 2. Merri will find out about Thad. It's kinda hard to hide that fact, lol.)
